Golf Ireland has announced a new two-year deal with golf clothing brand, Abacus Sportswear, from the 2023 season onwards.

The agreement with the Irish governing body for golf will see all International and Interprovincial teams wearing the company’s apparel.

A procurement process took place early in 2022 where Abacus replaced Adidas as supplier, creating a unified design for male and female players. The focus was to ensure both have consistent and modern clothing options that reflect the Golf Ireland brand.

The result is a vibrant uniform that allows players to perform at the highest level while feeling comfortable and stylish. This marks a milestone in Golf Ireland’s commitment to promoting gender equality and creating a level playing field.

One of the leading High-Performance players, Robert Moran (23), who has arrived back in Ireland after some impressive performances in India, was at the Golf Ireland Head Office in Maynooth for the announcement alongside teammates Aideen Walsh, Kate Lanigan, Aidan Grenham and Marilyn Henderson, and he is excited about the new link with Abacus.

“The uniform looks great. As players, it’s really good that we have been encouraged to give our feedback so it feels like we have been involved in process. The unique colours represent Ireland too so we are really looking forward to wearing it.

“With rain-wear especially, jackets can be baggy and uncomfortable creating a restrictive feeling in the swing, but the Abacus products are really comfortable and that’s great for your confidence standing over a golf shot.”

After feedback from the players, the new uniforms were created with both comfort and functionality in mind, while size inclusivity was also crucial to the new agreement.

Golf Ireland High Performance Director, Neil Manchip, says it is important for the players that they have clothing that suits their size and swing.

“At Golf Ireland we are always looking to take our game to the next level. The High Performance teams and all the support staff are really impressed by what Abacus has to offer,” said Manchip.

“Visually, the kit is really interesting especially with the unique colour scheme but also, knowing our players will have the most comfortable apparel is great for peace of mind.”

Abacus is revolutionising the game with its cutting-edge Swedish design and advanced waterproof fabrics. The apparel is optimised to eliminate any weather-related distractions, enabling golfers to stay focused on their performance.

Sven-Olof Karlsson, CEO at Abacus said: “We are delighted that the Irish teams have chosen to wear Abacus clothing. We look forward to celebrating every success with them and they carry our best wishes as they compete across the world. We are confident that they will be great ambassadors both for the great game of golf and Abacus Sportswear.”
