Club de Golf Alcanada has achieved Diamond Award status at the Tagmarshal Awards for the third time, with the Mallorca venue recognised for its outstanding course performance and service.
Alcanada was presented with the honour at the recent PGA show in Orlando, Florida, highlighting a fine 2022 for the iconic venue that culminated in hosting November’s Rolex Challenge Tour Grand Final. Following the success of that prestigious tournament it was confirmed the event will return to Alcanada’s par-72 course later this year.
The award highlights exceptional performance in criteria including pace of play, player experience and course optimisation, all of which have contributed to the club’s status as a leading venue for major competitions. In particular, Alcanada’s use of Tagmarshal’s innovative on-course optimisation technology increases the speed of an 18-hole round by five per cent, a valuable asset in a sport having to increasingly tackling pace-of-play issues.
The Tagmarshal Awards were launched in 2019 to recognise the highest quality across over 500 courses to partner with the brand. Alcanada won its first Diamond award that year, claiming the honour again in 2021 before making it a hat-trick in 2022.
In earning a third award, Alcanada stands alongside elite names in the sport. The legendary Pebble Beach, Ballybunion, Erin Hills, Pinehurst and Portugal’s West Cliffs Resort were among just 30 venues from around the world to claim the coveted Diamond status in 2022.
Alcanada director Kristoff Both said: “Our main goal at the club is always to enhance the player experience. We’ve never really had an issue with pace of play at Alcanada, but of course, we are aware of how important it is to the majority of golfers, and how much of a negative impact it can have on people’s enjoyment if not properly managed.
“Using the Tagmarshal system has refined our approach to this, and allowed our team to identify problems before they even occur out on the course, ensuring our golfers can simply enjoy a wonderful golf course and the fine Mallorcan weather.”
Bodo Sieber, CEO of Tagmarshal, said: “Congratulations to Club de Golf Alcanada for receiving the Tagmarshal Diamond Award 2022/23 for the third year running. Diamond Awards are issued to a select group of global courses – such as Pebble Beach, Pinehurst, Bandon Dunes, Erin Hills and Ballybunion – based on exceptional levels of player experience and service. Well done to Kristoff Both and his team for the phenomenal results they have achieved!”
Celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2023, Club de Golf Alcanada has enjoyed a meteoric rise and is now recognised as one of Spain’s finest golf courses. The only layout on the island of Mallorca that is blessed with an oceanside location, the course winds gently towards the Mediterranean Sea and the picturesque lighthouse.
The venue’s state-of-the-art facilities have also garnered acclaim, including Mallorca’s first TopTracer driving range and a halfway house. The Copa de Baleares, the region’s prestigious amateur tournament, is scheduled to grace Alcanada in 2023 alongside the Rolex Challenge Tour Grand Final’s return.
