Ireland claim six points to lie 2nd in Hexagonal matches

Ireland ended day one of the International Hexagonal Women’s Matches in second place after collecting six points from their opening foursomes and singles matches.

The Girls in Green trail share second with Germany and trail hosts Spain by one.

In the morning foursomes matches there were wins for Clandeboye’s Rebekah Gardner and Olivia Costello of Roscommon over Sweden by a 7&5 margin while the Hermitage’s Kate Lanigan continued her fine recent form to win 4&3 over Portugal alongside Emma Fleming of Elm Park.

In the afternoon singles Ireland won four points courtesy of wins for Gardner, Costello, Lanigan and Fleming.
