Matthew McClean leads the Irish challenge at the halfway stage of the African Amateur Strokeplay Championship at Leopard Creek.
The Malone man really got it going early in his second round on Tuesday and was four-under through 12 holes and bogey-free as he moved up the board.
However, four bogeys in his last six holes halted all momentum with the U.S. Mid-Am champion now at plus-two and in a tie for 16th, leaving him trailing South African Aldrich Potgeiter’s lead by 10 shots with 36-holes to play.
Naas ace Robert Brazill is next best from an Irish perspective on three-over after carding three birdies in a second round 74.
Castle’s Robert Moran, Royal Dublin’s Richard Knightly and Carton House’s Marc Boucher are all at five-over and in a share of 27th.
Royal Dublin’s Hugh Foley is at seven-over par and in a share of 38th while Joshua Hill (+8) and Jack McDonnell (+11) complete the Irish scoring after two days of action.
