Waterfords Seamus Power is in the picture for a major breakthrough next year according to the latest betting trends following his second victory on the PGA Tour.
Power followed up three rounds of 65 by carding a 70 on Sunday at the Bermuda Championship, which was enough to hold off Belgian Thomas Detry by a shot and add to the Barbasol Championship victory already on his CV from last year.
The win propelled the Waterford man up to number 32 in the world rankings meaning he is likely to play in all four majors next year and now Irish punters are rallying behind a high-profile breakthrough for Power in 2023.
BoyleSports have already cut him into 100/1 from 150/1 for the green jacket at The Masters, while he is 50/1 shot from 80/1 to get his hands on the Claret Jug when The Open returns to Royal Liverpool in July, the scene of Rory McIlroy’s sole Open triumph in 2014.
Power has been backed into 14/1 to 20/1 win any of the four major championships in 2023, with the US Open at Los Angeles rated his best chance to land one of the three Stateside majors at 66/1.
Lawrence Lyons, spokesperson for BoyleSports said: “Seamus Power’s move up the world rankings could easily be described as under the radar, but his progress certainly isn’t going unnoticed back home. With two PGA Tour wins now under his belt, Irish punters are growing ever more confident he will challenge on the highest stage next year and we’ve had to go 14/1 from 20/1 about a major win with all of the big four likely to be in the 2023 diary.”
