Lauren Walsh is celebrating again after Wake Forest earned their second victory in as many starts with a three-shot win at the Mercedes Benz Intercollegiate at Cherokee Country Club.
It’s back-to-back wins to start the season for the Deacs after Walsh led her side to the Annika Intercollegiate as her final round and career-low 66 helped them overturn a ten shot deficit to win by four.
This week Walsh didn’t hit the heights but the sign of a great team is when others aren’t at their best someone will step up. This time it was the turn of Rachel Kuehn who shot a blistering 64 to ensure Wake Forest finished three clear at the top this time around.
In the individual standings the Castlewarden native finished on four-over after rounds of 74, 69 and 74.
Walsh was fifteen shots off the winner Tunrada Piddon who shot a final round to pip Kuehn and Bailey Davis of Tennessee by the minimum on eleven-under-par.
Royal Dublin’s Max Kennedy kicked off his season in positive fashion with a seventh place finish as he helped Louisville take third in the Bearcat Invite.
Kennedy who came close at the Mullingar Scratch Cup last month was the leading man for his college after a final round of 69.
The Dubliner started quickly with four birdies in eight holes before stalling slightly with three bogeys and a birdie coming home.
Louisville finished two shots shy of the team prize.
