Mount Juliet’s Brian Doheny was the only man to break 70 as he came out on top of a high-quality leaderboard that included the in-form Liam Grehan to claim the Specsavers Liffey Valley Pro-Am.
Doheny signed for a four-under par 69 after posting a magnificent seven birdies around Lucan Golf Club. The Thomastown talent also carded three bogeys but he had enough in hand to edge out K Club pro Grehan, Lough Erne’s veteran campaigner Damian Mooney and Clontarf’s Eoin O’Brien by a shot after the trio each signed for three-under 70s.

The win marks Doheny’s first of the season and matches the 69 he shot en route to a T4 finish at the Newlands Pro-Am in August.
In a day of hot scoring, Brendan Walton, Tim Rice and Patrick Geraghty shared fifth place on two-under and with 14 players breaking par on the day, regional stalwarts in Damien McGrane and Colm Moriarty were amongst a group of seven players at one-under.
Cahir Park’s Paul Eivers guided his team of Pat Twomey, Declan Mooney and Tim Crow to victory in the team competition with an incredible 99 points.
