Blainroe and Milltown golf clubs tasted victory as the finals of the 2022 Girls’ Interclub Matchplay competition were held in Bray Golf Club on Monday 15th August 2022.
Bray Golf Club hosted the event as the previous year’s winners and the course was in excellent condition, thanks to the work of course superintendent John Bishop and his team.
The competition was established in 2020 by Barbara Dillon (Dun Laoghaire Golf Club) and Darina Heavey (Killiney Golf Club) to promote junior girls golf and throughout the summer, 12 teams competed for the honours.
The Matchplay finalists were Blainroe and Bray, with the Plate final contested between Milltown and Greystones. The finals were played in excellent conditions with Blainroe and Milltown emerging as worthy winners of the titles having played some excellent golf on the day.
There was great support for the teams and the Blainroe members were delighted to see their Manager, Olga Stones and her team of Sadhbh Kenny, Sophie Pemberton, Sophie Hardy and Molly Bennett lift the overall title.
The Milltown team of Ella Ennis, Alannah Costello, Lucy Roche and Rachel Woods showed great determination in winning the Plate and they thanked their manager Louise Ennis for all her encouragement throughout the year.
The Bray Golf Club Lady Captain, Mary Kennedy O’Brien and Junior Girls’ Captain, Caoimhe Purcell presented the trophies to the winning teams.
Next year’s finals will be hosted by Blainroe Golf Club and the Wicklow club is looking forward to encouraging more clubs to participate in this fantastic event and welcoming the finalist in August 2023.
