Anna Foster rounded off her regular season with a runner-up finish at the Auburn Individual while Julie McCarthy secured an eighth-place finish at the weather-affected 36-hole event.
Foster who is in her sophomore year fired rounds of 71 and 70 for a three-under total, just two shots shy of college teammate Kaleigh Telfer who edged to victory with a final round 69.
The Elm Park golfer put on a stirring finish with two birdies in her final four holes to force the issue but it wasn’t quite enough to force an unlikely playoff despite Telfer making a double-bogey six on the last.
Very little happened for Foster on the front nine. A bogey on 3 was cancelled out by a birdie on the par-3 4th as she turned in 36. Five pars followed to open her inward nine before she made a late dash at the title with a birdie on the par-5 15th and a closing birdie to come home in 34.
Foster’s Tigers teammate McCarthy carded a one-under 71 to finish in a share of eighth on five-over. The fifth year bounced back from an opening 78 to finish on five-over-par for the tournament.
The Forrest Little golfer had an eventful period in the middle of her round having roared to the turn with three birdies in five holes she gave those shots back with three dropped shots in four.
A birdie on 15 saw her finish the round in red numbers and move up ten places in the standings.
McCarthy made the turn in three-under 33 after birdies on the fifth, eighth and ninth and looked like she was going to post the low round of the day. However, dropped shots on the tenth, eleventh and thirteenth sent her tumbling back to where she started the day on plus six.
She regained her composure to birdie the 15th for a back nine of 38.
Meanwhile, Mairead Martin continued her fine form at the Wolfpack Match Play and it was a better day for her team as Louisville edged to a 3-2 victory over Virginia Tech.
Martin cruised to a 5&4 win over Becca DiNunzio in the anchor match in a match she led from the second hole.
Martin made the turn at 3UP before a four on the 1st extended her advantage to four holes and she finished the job with a four on the 5th hole to secure another comprehensive win.
