Charlie Denvir and Paul Murphy signed off on 2021 in style by taking the prizes at the final TaylorMade Winter Series event of the year at Portmarnock Links.
Elm Park’s +3.5 handicap Denvir was in sensational form on the receptive links, taking route 66 to the clubhouse to pip home favourite Brendan Walton to the Nett prize in 69.
Opening up with a trio of pars followed by a trio of birdies, Denvir was playing some quality golf. A double bogey 6 on the par-4 seventh would have slowed many players momentum but Charlie bounced back with a birdie at the dogleg eighth hole and with a par ‘3’ at the ninth, he carded an outward nine of 34.
The back nine was more comfortable for the Elm park player as he chalked down birdies at the 10th, 13th and 15th for an inward nine of 32 to complete the course in 66 strokes and a lovely way to close out the year.
In the Gross Prize, Paul Murphy made the trip from Rosslare to take on the Portmarnock Links course and it was certainly a worthwhile journey. Murphy picked up a birdie on the short par-4 second hole to go under par early and although he dropped one shot at the par-4 seventh, it was quickly cancelled out with a 2 at the par-3 ninth.
Murphy displayed some lovely golf on the back-nine with a single birdie on the long par-5 13th to close out a fantastic round of two-under par, two strokes clear of Gavin Moynihan and Lucan’s Philip Linton.
