Royal Dublin’s Hugh Foley and The Island’s Paul McBride put their links prowess to good use, taking the top prizes on a pleasant November day at the TaylorMade Winter Series at Portmarnock Hotel & Golf Links.

A full tee-sheet of 102 players teed up in little wind and competitors took advantage, not least McBride who arrived home from the USA having fallen short at Korn Ferry Q-School. Still, despite two weeks away from his sticks, he showed no signs of rust with five birdies in his bogey-free 66 to take top honours in the Nett competition by two strokes from K Club pro Conor O’Rourke.

West of Ireland champion Foley wasn’t quite so clean in his scoring but came out the other side of a rollercoaster round with a 66 of his own to take the spoils in the Gross.

The +5.4 handicap had two bogeys and a double on his card but went out in five-under thanks to six front nine birdies before adding three more on the back nine.

That beat Gavin Moynihan into second spot after the Tour regular signed for a 69 with Portmarnock Links pro Daniel Mulligan home in third with a round of 70.
