The Island’s Paul McBride added a four-under par 67 to his opening 63 to maintain his two-shot lead at the halfway stage of Korn Ferry Tour Q-School at Kannapolis.

With the top-20 and ties advancing to Stage Two where Holywood’s Tom McKibbin is already safely through, McBride looks in cruise control to join him after eagling the 14th hole for the second day running as well as trading three birdies with one dropped shot to move to 12-under par in North Carolina.

Not alone in flying the flag for Ireland at the venue, it was also a decent day for Portmarnock’s Conor Purcell who added a round of 70 to his opening 69 to sit just one shot off the qualifiers with two rounds to go. Purcell posted four birdies and three bogeys to move to three-under with those at minus-four currently occupying a share of 18th.

Also not without hope is Waterford’s Kevin Phelan who carded five birdies and three bogeys in a two-under par 69 that sees him move to two-under for the tournament and within touching distance of the top-20.

Meanwhile, in West Palm Beach, Rosapenna’s Ruaidhri McGee remains on track to progress, though only just, after adding an even par 72 to his brilliant opening 67 to sit in a tie for 18th at five-under. McGee traded five birdies and five bogeys on Friday and heads fellow Irish Paul Murphy at The Breakers Rees Jones with Murphy carding a second straight 73 to be well off the pace at plus-two.
