The Island’s Paul McBride made the perfect start at his stage one assignment while Ruaidhri McGee also impressed as Korn Ferry Tour Q-School continued across six venues in the States.

McBride sets the standard after round one at Kannapolis after firing an eagle and six birdies in an eight-under par effort to lead the field by two.

The Alps tour regular, who’s made the odd appearance on the Challenge Tour this term, looked right at home in North Carolina to put himself in pole position with the top-20 and ties advancing to second stage where Holywood’s Tom McKibbin already booked his place last week.

McBride isn’t the only Irish player teeing it up at Kannapolis with Portmarnock’s Conor Purcell off to a good start after signing for a two-under 69 for a tie for 25th while Waterford’s Kevin Phelan was inside the top-50 after an even par 71.

Meanwhile, in West Palm Beach, Rosapenna’s Ruaidhri McGee made eight birdies in his five-under 67 to sit in second spot, just two strokes back from leader Bobby Bai. Paul Murphy was also at The Breakers Rees Jones where he shares 50th after a one-over 73.
