Thomas Bjørn is excited to make his Legends Tour debut as he tees it up in the Farmfoods European Legends Links Championship hosted by Ian Woosnam at Trevose Golf & Country Club from June 18 – 20.

The stunning English venue, which is located on the famous north Cornwall coastline, is the first event on European soil since the launch of the Legends Tour in 2020 following the ground-breaking joint venture agreement between the European Tour and Staysure Founder and Group CEO Ryan Howsam.

Bjørn, the 2018 European Ryder Cup Captain, is eagerly anticipating his Legends Tour bow after turning 50 earlier this year.

“You bubble along in your golf career and all of a sudden you turn 50 and you start looking forward to different things and it’s nice to come out here,” he said. “Most of these guys you’ve played golf with not five years ago but 15 and 20 years ago. It’s nice to see them all and you end up having good chats. It’s a nice break from the everyday life of the European Tour.

“It’s much more relaxed and people just come and do their own things. People just do what they want to do and they’re not so focused on everything else. They just go and play their practice rounds and get on with it. There’s a nice atmosphere but obviously on Friday morning, it will be the same as always. People will be focused on playing good golf and doing their best on the golf course.”

The 15-time European Tour winner is relishing the opportunity to tee it up on the pure links at Trevose Golf & Country Club, but is wary of the test it will pose should the weather change.

“The course is excellent,” he said. “You come down here, it’s obviously very beautiful, it’s a great part of the world and one of those places that you never really got to visit when you travel the world playing golf. You now get an opportunity to come down and see this part of the world.

“It’s a beautiful golf course, great place to be and the course is playing well. It will be a fun week and it will be interesting to see what happens. It’s a links golf course and very weather dependent; if the weather’s good then the scoring will be good but if it’s not then it will be a tough track to get your way around. We’ll see how it goes.”

Welshman Ian Woosnam is this week’s host and is enthused to welcome his fellow Legends Tour competitors to Cornwall.

“Nearly every player here has played on the Tour for many years, won tournaments, Ryder Cup players, Major winners and to be able have that opportunity to come down here is great. You can see the enthusiasm from the players. We might be getting on in age, but we can still hit the ball.”

Bjørn and Woosnam will be joined at Trevose Golf & Country Club by 1999 Open Champion Paul Lawrie, 2005 U.S. Open Champion Michael Campbell and reigning John Jacobs Trophy winner Phillip Price.

The European Legends Links Championship will begin at 8:00am local time on Friday June 18, with Bjørn teeing it up at 12:00pm alongside Englishman Roger Chapman and Woosnam playing at 11:50am alongside Scotsman Lawrie.
