Paula Grant fired her best round of the week to grab a top-20 finish in a confidence-boosting first season outing at the 90th Portuguese International Ladies Amateur Championship at Montado Hotel & Golf Resort.
The Lisburn amateur was in superb form early in her final round, racing to the turn in four-under par before three late bogeys saw her sign for a one-under par 71.
That was good enough for a share of 19th at three-over par for the full-time Optometrist who continues to set the standard from an Irish point of view as a working amateur in the unpaid ranks.
However, this week was all about a new star very much on the rise in the women’s game as Italian, Alessia Nobilio destroyed the field for an eight-shot win in Portugal.
The fourth best ranked amateur in the sport returned her fourth-straight round in the 60s – a four-under par 68 – to cap off a sublime week with a 15-under par total.
Irish Girls Champion, Kirkistown Castle’s Beth Coulter was also in superb form on the final day and managed six birdies in a rousing finish where she signed for an even par 72 good enough for a tie for 32nd at plus-eight.
Clandeboye’s Jessica Ross and Hermitage’s Kate Lanigan missed the 54-hole cut.
