On the second day of Munster finals at Clonmel Golf Club Faithlegg were the winners, claiming the Irish Junior Foursomes Munster Pennant. The win gave the Waterford club their first pennant in the competition, and that will now sit next to the Fred Daly Trophy pennant they won several years ago. Clonmel Golf Club was again the venue for the finals, the second day of golf however saw lots of showers and a stiff breeze. That said the Faithlegg golfers coped with conditions to put up a great display of foursomes golf, beating Lee Valley in the semi-final and Kilrush in the final. It was crushing for Kilrush to lose, in the morning semi-final they beat Douglas and hopes were high that the winning would continue for the west Clare club.
Rory Fives and Kieran Houlihan led the way for Faithlegg, winning both of their matches. Alex King and Cormac Cadogan were in similar form, they also won both matches. The final score would read as a seven hole win for Faithlegg, but for most of the afternoon it felt much closer. Kilrush golfers Tom Clancy, Oisin Morrissey, Gearoid Kelly and David McMahon were all up against more experienced golfers but the Clare golfers gave it their all, only falling late into the back nine in the final.
Faithlegg will now go on to the All-Ireland finals as Munster champions. The finals take place in Castle Dargan at the end of September.
