Royal Dublin’s Max Kennedy edged clear of Connemara’s Luke O’Neill as the leaderboard began to bunch up at the halfway stage of the Irish Boys Amateur Open Championship at New Forest.

Kennedy ground out an even-par 72 on a blustery day in Tyrrellspass to maintain the lead at four-under par, with O’Neill carding a one-over 73 to slip one stroke back.

Far from a two-horse race, the teenagers are being pursued by a packed leaderboard of talent, with Muskerry’s Fionn Hickey leading the charge after he moved to two-under par with a day two 70.

Seapoint’s Dylan Keating and Lisburn’s Aaron Marshall are one stroke further back at minus-one after signing for rounds of 70 & 74 respectively.

Day two certainly proved a tougher day but with so many live chances, it should be a thrilling two days golf before a victor emerges on Friday.
