Dermot McElroy’s second round 67 means he’s not without home ahead of the final round of the EuroPro Tour’s Diamond X Open at Cumberwell Park.
The Ballymena pro added a 67 to a superb day one 66 to sit in a share of seventh at nine-under par.
That’s one better than Niall Kearney who fired a second successive four-under par 67 to keep his slim hopes of winning alive.
The Royal Dublin professional’s bogey-free effort sees him trailing Luke Joy’s runaway lead by six strokes on eight-under par.
Clandeboye’s Jonathan Caldwell enjoyed another solid day at the office as a consecutive 68 saw him move into a tie for 24th at six-under par.
That’s the same tally as Headfort’s Brian Casey who fired three birdies and an eagle in his day two 69.
Unfortunately it proved a disappointing day for Stuart Grehan who failed to replicate the fireworks of a six-under par 65 on the opening day.
The Tullamore professional finds himself languishing in a tie for 36th after a one-over par 72 saw him lose ground on the field on day two.
Headfort’s Joe Dillon (-3), Shannon’s Daniel Brennan (+1), West Cliff’s Brendan McCarroll (+2), Northern Ireland’s Owen Crooks (+3) and Kilkenny’s Luke Donnelly (+5) all missed a stiff 36-hole cut that fell at four-under par.
Luke Joy’s three-stroke lead will take some catching with the final 18-holes set for Cumberwell Park tomorrow.
