If you want to follow in the footsteps of Rory McIlroy, it’s just been made a little easier as the childhood home of four-time Major winner, 43 Belfast Road, Holywood, is up for sale.
There is no historical plaque to suggest McIlroy lived in the attractive-looking redbrick dwelling, but an indoor mini driving range and spacious outdoor artificial turf putting green is some giveaway that a golfer once lived in the Belfast home.
The property is listed on the website www.propertynews.com indicating it is for sale for offers above £239,950.
The company lists 16 selling points but wasting little time to mention in point 2 – “Former Family Home of World Class Golfer Rory McIlroy”.
Another ‘selling’ point is reference to the artificial putting green.
“It’s a fabulous Opportunity to purchase this beautifully presented red brick semi-detached property that was the former home of world class golfer Rory McIlroy”, said agent John Minnis.
“This was the home he was brought-up in. If you have seen the pictures of him chipping into a washing machine, that was in this house.
“It’s a great property in a great location no matter who it was. It will sell.”
But what the real estate firm doesn’t mention is that the house is less than a mile from the front gates of McIlroy’s beloved Holywood Golf Club and in travelling to the course you pass Sullivan Upper School where McIlroy was a pupil. Cheque books at the ready then I suppose…
