The oracle is back from the future as his attention turns to this week’s DDF Irish Open at Portstewart. Here are the picks and odds for the selections, best of luck!
Rafa Cabrera Bello 30/1
Got to give Rafa a chance here at Portstewart. He’s been in the top-10 in four of the last five Irish Opens including a T4 on the links at Royal County Down and T2 at Portrush. Successfully globe trotting on the PGA Tour with a T4 at The Players and St Jude Classic and T26 last time out in Germany.
Thomas Pieters 22/1
Why is Thomas Pieters out at 22/1? Maybe because the bookies don’t fancy him on a links and maybe because he’s missed the cut at his last two Irish Opens. But with Rory heavily backed in to 7/1, a fresh Pieters looks super value. T13 in France last week with a poor final round, T14 at the flagship BMW PGA, T4 at the Masters, Pieters is becoming the man for big events. Due a win.
Thorbjorn Olesen 30/1
I remember Thor shooting an incredible 66 five years ago in Portrush in atrocious conditions and he’s surfaced again on my radar recently with a T4 at the Nordea Masters and brilliant T3 in Paris last time out. Three top 20’s from his last four Irish Opens and well worth an each way look.
Jamie Donaldson 70/1
I’m going to stick with Jamie Donaldson this week. His caddie Mick says he’s in great form and while it didn’t quite happen in France last week the improvement in form is there with a T14 in Germany and 7th at the Nordea Masters. The winner in Portrush in 2012 and T10 last year.
Bradley Dredge 80/1
Bradley Dredge will always give you a good run for your money in Ireland. T2 at the K Club last year, T10 in Royal County Down and four other top-10’s at the Irish Open. T27 last time out at the Open de France but was in 6th after three round and shot 76 on Sunday.
Long Odds Glory Shot
Max Kieffer 150/1
Max was T16 last week in France and looks great odds at an event where he has been T5 and T8 in the past two renewals.
Beemer’s Pick – Soren Kjeldsen
Rich Beem knows his onions when it comes to tippage and he says Soren Kjeldsen will do well this week. He won at Royal County Down and is a healthy 55/1 with the bookies. Beemer picked Charl Schwartzel on the Monday before The Masters so watch out!
