Srixon are back in the game-improvement iron space for the first time in a decade. The last game-improvement iron was the Z355 launched in 2015 and since then the company has focused on the players iron market with its sister brand Cleveland catering for the game improvement market.
The Japanese powerhouse has today unveiled its new ZXiR and ZXiR HL irons with the ZXiR HL being the first ever super game-improvement iron released by Srixon.
“With the introduction of our new game improvement irons, and for the first time ever, a super game improvement model, Srixon is opening the door for more golfers to experience the performance and feel our irons are celebrated for,” Said Joe Miller, Srixon European Product Manager. “These additions represent a new chapter in our innovation journey, bringing the advanced technologies and premium craftsmanship players expect from Srixon and making them available to all levels of players.”
What are Srixon ZXiR and ZXiR HL irons?
At the core of the new ZXiR irons is the company’s new i-ALLOY. The material was developed specifically for the ZXiR irons, which are the first cast irons in the Srixon lineup since 2015.
Because of the lighter and softer material, Srixon created a new MainFrame milling pattern for ZXiR faces to redistribute mass, which amplifies ball speed and increases forgiveness. The material is used for the body and face for the 8-iron through sand wedge, and just the body for the long- and mid-irons.
To help inspire confidence at address, the ZXiR irons have a larger profile, including a longer blade length, wider sole, and more offset than the other ZXi irons. The ZXiR HL irons have weaker lofts and optimised specs to help slower players get the ball in the air. Both irons feature much of the same key technologies in the rest of the ZXi iron lineup, form the wildly popular Tour V.T. sole, to a progressive groove pattern that adjusts in width and depth based on loft.
Srixon’s proprietary V-shaped sole with carefully balanced bounce and relief, helps prevent digging, ensure smooth turf interaction and promote consistent strikes.
Throughout the set, ZXiR grooves adjust in width and depth to match the shot. Wider grooves in the long irons for launch and speed, with tighter grooves in the scoring clubs for control and spin. Laser Face Milling: Etched between every groove, laser milling adds bite on every loft for control that stays sharp from any lie.
Who are Srixon ZXiR irons for?
With the new ZXiR and ZXiR HL irons, Srixon now has a complete iron lineup for every player from Shane Lowry gaming the fully forged ZXi7’s right down to the weekend warrior that can opt for the new ZXiR and ZXiR HL . The ZXiR irons slot in right after the ZXi4 hollow-body irons as an iron for mid-to-high handicappers seeking high forgiveness and speed. The ZXiR HL irons are aimed at players with slower swing speeds who need a boost to get the ball in the air. There is also a women’s version.
The Verdict
When it comes to game improvement irons, a lot of designs on the market feature so much visible tech that can really be a big turnoff for some players but this is where Srixon have excelled with the new ZXiR irons design.
Srixon has done a really nice job maintaining the looks and shaping that has made their players ZXi lineup so popular with ball strikers both on and off Tour.
The aesthetics of the new irons really do appear like a better-player iron, just a touch larger and match up perfectly for combo set options, something more players should definitely consider.
With the new launch, golfers and fitters can experience the complete range of Srixon Irons, providing the versatility to match every swing characteristic and performance requirement without limitation, ensuring there’s a Srixon Iron for every player.
