Srixon’s new Z-Star golf ball hasn’t even hit retail and already it owns a seriously impressive record. Utilising the all-new Srixon Z-STAR XV golf ball, Hideki Matsuyama kicked off the 2025 season in dominant fashion, securing his 11th PGA TOUR title with a victory at The Sentry.

Matsuyama displayed his exceptional ball control throughout the tournament, ranking top three in strokes gained approach, scrambling, and first in strokes gained overall. The Sentry, known for its elite field and course complexities, highlighted Matsuyama’s performance, including his accuracy, hitting over 87% of greens in regulation with the new ball. Matsuyama finished the tournament at 35-under 257, the lowest 72-hole scoring record in a PGA TOUR event.

The win is actually Matsuyama’s third with this ball as he had it in play most of the 2024 season. Shane Lowry has also adopted the new Z-STAR XV with Conor Purcell gaming the new Z-STAR ♦ (Diamond) ball. Right, thats enough Tour talk, here is all you need to know about the new lineup.

Designed to cater to the needs of golfers at every level, Srixon have today announced the launch of the ninth generation Z-STAR Series golf balls. The latest line of Z-STAR Series golf balls are engineered to pack an even greater punch, with longer distance, more optimised spin, and tour-level stopping power around the greens.

A highlight of the latest Z-STAR Series is the newly formulated, extra thin, premium urethane cover made with biomass.

“Our approach to this generation of the Z-STAR series was to produce a more durable ball without compromising performance,” Joe Miller, Srixon Europe, Product Manager. “This generation’s unique cover and stronger coating help improve the spin performance specific to each ball, while our team has improved distance and control to provide golfers purer performance from tee to green.”

The company says the new cover is “designed to withstand all conditions faced on the course” which means it can maintain performance for multiple rounds of use.

In addition to the new biomass cover, the Z-STAR Series also features Spin Skin+ coating. This thin layer of specialised urethane increases the cover’s friction, resulting in enhanced approach shots and greenside spin. Additionally, the use of a stronger urethane paint in this generation helps improve resistance to dirt and grime, providing players superior spin control and extra versatility around the greens.

Srixon’s approach to this generation of the Z-STAR Series was to produce a more durable ball without compromising performance. This generation’s unique cover and stronger coating help improve the spin performance specific to each ball with improved distance and control to provide golfers purer performance from tee to green.

A newly formulated FastLayer DG Core 2.0, consisting of three unique formulas, lies at the core of the Z-STAR Series. Starting soft at the centre and gradually firming from the inside out, this core design ensures optimum spin and distance upon impact, while still delivering Srixon’s signature feel.

FastLayer DG Core 2.0 also enables optimal core evolution for each model, providing even more distinction between the ball options. The Z-STAR model, with reduced compression at the centre of its already soft core, minimises driver spin for increased distance, softer feel, and enhanced green side spin. The Z-STAR XV features added firmness partway through the core, and boosts ball speed for greater distance and improved iron spin. Lastly, the Z-STAR DIAMOND, with its slightly firmer core and reduced compression, minimises driver spin, resulting in exceptional distance off the tee while maintaining green side spin.

Z-STAR Divide

Also included in the Z-STAR Series is Srixon’s Z-STAR DIVIDE model. Offering unmatched visibility on the course, the distinctive two-tone design of this ball, known as 50/50 Visual Performance, allows golfers to see the game from a whole new perspective.

“For visual players who like to track their ball in the air and around the greens, the DIVIDE is a game changer. The yellow/white contrast creates a spinning strobe effect, allowing golfers to easily gauge the rate of spin with their Wedges. When you add in the 360° seam line on the greens for better alignment and roll, this ball can enhance consistency in the areas of your game that matter most.” Joe Miller, Srixon Europe, Product Manager. Despite their unique colourway design, the DIVIDE golf balls incorporate the same tour-calibre feel, speed, and distance technology found in Z-STAR model.

Retail Pricing and Information:

Z-STAR Series (Z-STAR, Z-STAR XV, Z-STAR DIAMOND, Z-STAR DIVIDE) will all be available from the 22nd of Feb for an RRP of €59 per dozen. Srixon’s Z-STAR and Z-STAR XV are available in Pure White and Tour Yellow.

Choosing the right Z-STAR for your game

Srixon’s Z-Star lineup for 2025 is a family of three tour-level multilayer urethane-cover balls. The majority of the changes focus on how the core of all three balls changes in firmness. The softer Z-Star is designed for approach shot and maximum green side spin, the firmer Z-Star ♦ (Diamond) aims at iron spin control and distance and the Z-Star XV mixes a softer central core with a very firm outer region to maximise ball speed for the most aggressive swing speeds.
