Augusta National are currently assessing damage to the golf course after the Masters venue was hit by the devastating Hurricane Helene on Friday.
In the early hours of Friday morning the most powerful storm on record wreaked havoc on Florida’s Big Bend region with severe flooding and sustained winds of up to 140mph causing devastating damage with 42 people reported to have been killed.
Augusta, the town where the Masters is held was severely hit by the category four Hurricane Helene with more than 200,000 residents reportedly without power.
Augusta National chairman Fred Ridley offered his thoughts and prayers to the community and said the golf club is assessing the impact that Hurricane Helene has had on the course grounds.
“Our Augusta community has suffered catastrophic and historic impact from Hurricane Helene,” Ridley said. “We currently are assessing the effects at Augusta National Golf Club.
“In the meantime, our focus and efforts are foremost with our staff, neighbors and business owners in Augusta. Our thoughts and prayers are with them as well as everyone throughout Georgia and the Southeast who have been affected.”
The next Masters Tournament is scheduled to be played from 9-13 April 2025.
