Liam Grehan finds himself five shots off the lead going into the final round of the Clutch Pro Tour event at Cornwall’s St. Mellion Golf Club, but with 19 ahead of him, he’ll need something special to challenge the top of the leaderboard.
Just 16 of the 120-man field managed to shoot a round in red figures on day two and none of these came from any of the nine Irish competitors.
Both Liam and namesake Stuart Grehan were well placed with rounds of -2 and -1 respectively on day one, with John Ross Galbraith matching the latter, but after an early birdie and a one-under opening nine, Liam Grehan was undone by bogeys on 10 and 15 and a triple-bogey-seven on the 13th, but recovered to birdie the last and he heads into the final round in a tie for 20th.
Galbraith went round in one stroke more to sit tied for 31st on +3 alongside Rowan Lester whose one-over 73 was the round of the day from an Irish perspective and these three looked set to be alone for the final round before Rory Williamson birdied two of his final three holes to shoot matching 74s and make the cut on the number.
Robert Brazill agonisingly found himself the wrong side of the mark after a tough finish, as did Conor Murtagh, Stuart Grehan, Scott Montgomery and Brandon St. John.
First round leader Daniel Smith managed to grind out a one-over 73, and he still leads by the minimum but there are a mounting group of six who sit just a shot behind.
