Liam Grehan was left to rue a triple bogey-seven on the par-4 seventh which saw him slip from the lead in the final-round of the Clutch Pro Tour’s event at Slaley Hall, and ultimately cost the K Club man his chances at victory.
Starting the final round with a one shot lead on the difficult Hunting Course, Grehan birdied the par-5 third and added another on the par-4 sixth to take a two-stroke lead, but disaster struck on seven and the triple saw him tumble from the top.
Three bogeys in succession from the 11th meant that he was relying on a fast finish and favours from the rest, and though he’d claw two shots back with birdies at 14 and 16, the help he needed never came and he finished three shots back at -10.
John Ross Galbraith had the best of the final round action from an Irish perspective as he closed out with a three-under to climb into a tie for 15th, one stroke ahead of Stuart Grehan who shot a closing 73 and finished T17.
Niall Kearney rounded out the Irish challengers and he also shot a closing 73 to finish tied for 43rd on -1.
Englishman David Langley, who was paired along with Grehan, ran out the winner with a two-under 70 and he had the luxury of being able to bogey the closing hole and still take a one-shot victory.
