Liam Grehan is 18 holes away from a maiden Clutch Pro Tour victory after following his opening seven-under 65 with a second-round 67 on the tougher of the two courses at Slaley Hall.

The K Club man was virtually flawless on day one playing the Priestman Course, save for a three-putt par, but a bogey on the first hole of the Hunting Course was far from the ideal start to round two, but back-to-back par-5s on two and three offered birdie opportunities and he duly obliged but a second dropped shot on the eighth saw him make the turn at level-par.

He caught fire on the back nine, however, reeling off five birdies – all coming on par-4s, including two of the final three – to move to -12 and take a one-stroke lead into the third and final round.

Tullamore namesake Stuart Grehan followed his first-round 70 on the Hunting Course with a three-under 69 on the Priestman to move into a tie for 18th. The big hitter eagled two of the four par-5s, and recovered from a three-in-a-row bogey stretch on the back nine to give himself an outside chance of a top-10 finish.

John Ross Galbraith, Niall Kearney and Robert Brazill all made the cut on the number on -2, but Rowan Lester, Conor O’Rourke, Rory Williamson, Scott Montgomery, Tom Dowdall and John Hickey all found themselves the wrong side of the mark.
