Shane Lowry has been cut into 30/1 from 33/1 with BoyleSports to add a second Claret Jug to his trophy cabinet this week when he tees it up at The Open at Royal Troon, while Liam Nolan is attracting action to see the weekend.

The Offaly man goes into the final major of the season in solid form having posted top-20 finishes in his previous two majors, including a 6th at the USPGA Championship at Valhalla. Ninth on his most recent outing at the Travelers Championship also bodes for Lowry, who topped The Open leaderboard in 2019 at Royal Portrush, the venue for next year’s renewal.

Rory McIlroy is a 15/2 shot to bounce back from his agonising near miss at the US Open, but the favourite’s tag belong to prolific American and world number 1 Scottie Scheffler (5/1), who is seeking his second major of the season with a green jacket already in his locker.

A major championship debut is in store for Galway amateur and Walker Cup star Nolan, who is a 45/1 shot to be best of the Irish at Troon, but at 3/1 is a popular choice to make the cut in his bid for the top amateur’s silver medal, previously won by the likes of Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy.

BoyleSports is also offering an early payout market, which means punters will get paid out if their selection is the sole leader at the end of round three.

Lawrence Lyons, spokesperson for BoyleSports said: “Liam Nolan will be dreaming of making his mark in unchartered territory, but there is confidence Irish eyes will be smiling come Sunday evening because Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry are both very popular picks for the Claret Jug.”
