Tom McKibbin went from top of the leaderboard to six shots off the halfway pace in a flash after a horror finish stifled his chances of a second DP World Tour win at the SDC Championship.
Standing on the 7th tee -his 16th- on nine-under and leading after an eagle on the par-5 6th, McKibbin stumbled towards the clubhouse with a bogey, double bogey, bogey run.
In the end, he settled for a disappointing two-under 70 which leaves him in a share of 9th place on five-under.
The Holywood man trails Englishman Daniel Brown by six shots heading into the weekend.
It was plain sailing for McKibbin for 15 holes. Starting on the 10th he birdied 11, 15 and 16 before responding to a bogey on 1 with back to back birdies on 2 and 3.
A weekend in contention beckoned after eagling the 6th but he now has ground to make up on Brown.
Brown holds a three shot advantage over home favourite Shaun Norris and Robin “Tiger” Williams.
Richie O’Donovan missed the cut on +15 after coming through a Monday qualifier.
