Leona Maguire slipped into a share of 38th place and out of contention after a second round of 77 at the HSBC Women’s World Championship in Singapore.

Maguire was just two shots off the pace after an opening 70 but is now ten shots behind Frenchwoman Celine Boutier at the halfway stage.

The Cavan star lies on three-over-par following a wretched last ten holes.

Maguire started steadily, dropping a shot on the third but recovered with a birdie on the par-5 8th. However, things soon unravelled with a double bogey six on the ninth and three bogeys in four holes on the 14th, 16th and 17th.

At the top in Sentosa Golf Club it’s Boutier who shot a blistering 64 to lap the field and hold a one shot lead from Ayaka Furue on seven-under-par.

Boutier, the world number 3, credited an improved putting performance as she reeled off eight birdies including four in five holes in a bogey-free round.

“I think my putting was a little better. I feel like I didn’t really make that many putts yesterday, and today I felt like I made everything. So I felt like that was definitely main difference between yesterday and today.

“It was definitely less windy, and I was able to get a good start and two birdies on the back, which is my front nine.

“That gave me a lot of confidence to keep going and I was able to take advantage of a lot of birdie putts, especially on four, and just kept going. I feel like I played solid all round long and was able to get a low score.”
