Ireland will play hosts Spain in the Championship match of the Women’s Octagonal Matches in Costa Ballena after a dominant win over Sweden.

Leading 2-1 after the morning foursomes, the Girls in Green won four of the afternoon singles matches to run out comfortable 6.5-2.5 winners.

The impressive Mairead Martin and Kate Lanigan combined for a win in the opening foursomes match while Olivia Costello and Caoimhe O’Grady ensured Ireland took a slender advantage into the afternoon.

Annabel Wilson (2&1) and Lanigan (6&4) put clear daylight between the teams while Anna Abom earned a half point before Costello and Martin were dominant in the anchor matches running out 4&2 and 5&4 winners respectively.
