Tramore’s Jack Hearn is just four shots off the pace at the halfway stage of the Golf RSA International Amateur Championship after he made a significant move on day two.
Hearn carded a three-under-par round of 69 to move into a share of 12th place on two-under.
The Maynooth University student got off to a hot start with three birdies in his first five holes.
He double bogeyed the par-3 9th but instantly replied with bad-to-back birdies to start his back nine before closing with seven successive pars.
Enniscrone’s David Shiel also moved into the fringes of contention with a one-under 71 which lifted him into T23 on one-under-par.
Dutchman Jack Ingham and South Africa’s Dian Kruger lead the way on six-under-par.
There will be a cut after 54 holes with the top-50 players progressing to the final round.
Scott Jones is T65 and Darcy Hogg is T84 and both have work to do in the third round.
