Stuart Grehan came up just short of claiming back-to-back victories on the Toro Tour as he closed with a final-round three-under 69 to take solo third place at San Roque New Course in Andalucía.

The tough scoring conditions of days one and two eased a little for the third and final round, and the Tullamore man’s 69 was the joint lowest score of the day, but unfortunately was matched by Englishman Callum Barrow who’d begun the day two clear of Grehan.

Grehan made five birdies in total, including back-to-back red numbers on holes 16 and 17 as he attempted to chase down the leading duo in the professional category, but Barrow trumped him by eagling the 16th and the birdieing 18 to seal a one-shot win over Canadian Jacob Lehman with Grehan one further adrift.

Cork’s Paddy Quill was the next best of the Irish but was well off the pace, finishing ted for 17th in the amateur category and T24 overall, with Carton House’s Cathal MacCanna taking 30th place in the amateur and 42nd overall.

Next up is the Toro Tour Azata next week where Grehan is joined by an additional six Irish entrants.
