Olivia Mehaffey equalled her career best low round of 65 to burst into contention at the PING/ASU Invitational on Saturday.

The world amateur number 20, who is set to compete at the inaugural Augusta National Women’s Amateur next week, looks to be coming into form at the perfect time as she fired seven birdies in a stunning bogey-free performance.

The Banbridge star’s play elevated the No. 16 Sun Devil women to another solid collective round on day two of their own Invitational, cutting four strokes off Friday’s round as they tied for the lowest round of the day with No. 4 Stanford.

As the Sun Devils and Cardinals shot the same score on Saturday, ASU remain one stroke back from the top spot at four-under for the tournament. Individually, Mehaffey moved 26 spots up the leaderboard to a tie for fourth after tying her career low and setting a new course record for the tournament at Papago Golf Course.

“Overall I am pleased with our effort today,” said head coach Missy Farr-Kaye. “Olivia’s 65 was an outstanding round today! I believe when every member of our team finds the zone that Olivia did today, we will be unbeatable. I am excited to have one more round on this golf course to see what we can accomplish!”

Mehaffey now finds herself just two shots off Stanford’s Andrea Lee’s leading score of seven-under par heading into the final round.
