PGA Tour player Nate Lashley has lashed out at the combined PIP bonuses of a combined $27 million for Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods.
Lashley branded the lucrative sums rewarded to the pair as “ridiculous” and a “kick in the face” for the regular PGA Tour professionals.
The American, ranked 190th in the Official World Golf Rankings vented his frustrations on Instagram where he screenshotted a memo detailing the results of the 2023 PGA Tour Player Impact Program.
At the summit is McIlroy earning $15 million in bonuses with Woods, who hasn’t played since the Masters last April, second on $12 million.
“How many golf fans actually know what the PIP on the PGA Tour is?” Lashley wrote on Instagram.
“Would love to hear from golf/ PGA fans if they think this $100 million was spent well?
“There’s 150-200 members of the PGA Tour and they just spent $100 million on 20 players. Seems a little ridiculous.
“Time for new leadership on the PGA Tour. This is an absolute kick in the face to the rest of the PGA Tour players.”
The memo also stated that the PIP would be cut from $100m to $50 million next season with just the top-10 players receiving payments.
The remaining $50 million will be allocated to the FedEx Cup and ‘other player programs.’
