Shane Lowry has signed off a 15th season in the play for pay ranks delightfully declaring: “It’s been a bucket list year”.

It was a winless season for Lowry, having gone close in finishing third at the Horizon Irish Open though that really didn’t seem matter for the golfer who probably cheered the loudest and celebrated the best among his 11 playing colleagues following Europe’s comprehensive victory at the Ryder Cup.

The super-proud Offalyman wound-up his golfing year last Sunday, sharing 18th place in the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai to secure 46th place on the Race to Dubai (R2D) with season earnings from his 12 counting events of €1.5m.

It was one of his poorest seasons this side of ‘The Pond’ since ending 2020 also average-like in 44th on the R2D while his best season remains his 2019 Open Championship winning year when he was fourth in money earned.

Of course, Lowry’s now based full-time on the PGA Tour and with season 2023 capped with just one top-10, that being a T5 at the Honda Classic earlier this year and ending his Stateside season very early failing to qualify for the FedEx Play-Off Series.

Though, as mentioned, it was the Ryder Cup that brought the biggest smile to the face of Lowry – a smile as wide as the Irish Sea – with Lowry taking to his Instagram account to express his 2023 season feelings:

Lowry indicated post Dubai he would be heading back to his Jupiter abode before bringing his family home for Christmas.

And sure to be high on Lowry’s 2024 New Year’s ‘wish list’ will be qualifying for the Irish Olympic Team, again joining great friend Rory McIlroy in contesting at the Golf Le National course near Versailles, venue for the 2018 Ryder Cup and also regular host venue for the French Open.
