Rory McIlroy’s revealed he reached out to Jon Rahm and saying there’s no way the super golfing Spaniard will desert the PGA Tour ship for LIV Golf.
Speculation was rife when it was noticed Rahm’s name went missing from the list of 24 players listed on the TGL website who will compete in January’s start to the PGA Tour backed TGL series in Florida.
Rahm’s absence from the list quickly gave rise to suggestions the reigning Masters champ was signing with LIV however Rahm went public in a short 49-word statement to diffuse further controversy by saying virtually ‘time was just not right’ for him to add more golf to his schedule.
McIlroy was asked his thoughts on Rahm’s decision at a press conference Monday in Boston that was held to officially launch his own Boston team in the TGL Series.
“I spoke to Jon a couple days ago and would be very, very surprised if that were to happen”, said McIlroy.
“I’m pretty confident Jon is a PGA Tour player.”
The TGL also released its own statement confirming that Rahm would not be involved in the opening season. It said that they “understand that players have to balance a lot of different facets of their professional and personal lives and respect Jon’s choice and wish him well”.
