Maguire paired with Nordqvist in opening foursomes session at Finca Cortesin

Leona Maguire will pair up with Swede Anna Nordqvist in match #3 in the opening foursomes session of the Solheim Cup at Finca Cortesin on Friday morning.

They will face world number three Nelly Korda and reigning U.S. Women’s Open champion Allison Corpuz at 07:34 BST. Maguire and Korda crossed swords twice at Inverness in 2021 with the Cavan star taking the bragging rights on both occasions. Corpuz is making her first appearance in the biennial event, whilst Nordqvist is making her eighth appearance and has an overall 14-10-3 record.

Swedish rookie duo Linn Grant and Maja Stark will get the show underway against Lexi Thompson and Megan Khang, with major winning duo of Georgia Hall and Celine Boutier following up against Danielle Kang and Andrea Lee in match #2.

The experienced Charley Hull will shepherd another of team Europe’s rookies in the final match of the morning foursomes session when she and Denmark’s Emily Kristine Pedersen take on Ally Ewing and Cheyenne Knight, with world number two Lilia Vu surprisingly being rested for the opening session.

Spain’s Carlotta Ciganda, Swedes Madelene Sagstrom and Caroline Hedwall and Scotland’s Gemma Dryburgh will all sit out the foursomes session, with Vu being joined by Jennifer Kupcho, Rose Zhang and Angel Yin on the sidelines for the United States.
