Marc Boucher and Jonathan Yates are tied for 20th after 36 holes of the 72-hole DP World Tour First Qualifying Stage at Donnington Grove Golf Club.
Carton House amateur Boucher began the day at -2, but started with back-to-back bogeys on 10 and 11 to immediately return to level-par for the tournament. Birdies on 13 and 17 got him back to -2, but another brace of dropped shots on the front side were offset by a closing birdie at the ninth and he posted -1 at the midpoint.
Yates was two strokes behind Boucher after round one, but he improved on his opening offering with a one-under 71 in round two and moved into good stalking position going into the final two rounds.
Rob Brazil, at +7, will have to wait until the second round which was suspended for darkness is completed on Thursday morning to discover whether he makes the 36-hole cut, but though he’s a long way off the leader who sits at -13, he’s only eight shots off the qualification spots so could still be in with a chance if he survives the second-round chop and can make strong headway in round three.
Ruairi O’Connor is a further two strokes back at +9 and looks unlikely to find himself with a third-round tee time.
Meanwhile, over in Italy’s Bogogna Golf Club, Simon Bryan missed out on the 36-hole cut in his attempt to navigate Q-School with a second-round 76.
