Castlewarden’s Lauren Walsh saved her best round for last at the LET’s Rose Ladies Open at Brocket Hall’s The Melbourne Club and pushed her way into the top-10 at the end of the 54-hole event.
Rounds of 74 and 70 in rounds one and two respectively saw Walsh, who recently graduated from the United States’ Wake Forest University, climb into a tie for 16th and trail by five going into Saturday’s third and final round.
Four birdies were offset by just the one bogey as Walsh’s closing 69 saw her move into a tie for ninth in what was her third LET Access Series start since turning professional and making her LPGA Tour debut at the Dana Open back in July.
The birdies came at holes three and five on the front nine – both par-5s – before making a bogey five at the 10th. Similarly, she’d take care of both par-5s on the back nine to move to -3 for the tournament and make it three top-10s in three Access Series events having come solo second at the Trust Golf Links Event and being T8 at the LETAS Links Series at the end of July.
The top five on the LET Access Series’ Order of Merit will gain promotion to the LET proper for 2024 and Walsh climbs to 62nd in the rankings.
Switzerland’s Chiara Tamburlini secured a second victory of the season. The 24-year-old had a stunning final day carding nine birdies and two bogeys to finish on 12-under-par, two shots ahead of fellow friend and Swiss player Elena Moosmann.
It was a Swiss showdown on the final day as both players became clear contenders for the lead after the front-nine.
Speaking about the round, Tamburlini said: “It feels amazing, it’s quite overwhelming to be honest. It’s starting to settle in. I’m quite speechless now.
The recent University of Mississippi graduate had her first win on the LET Access Series three weeks ago at the PGA Championship Gothenburg where she also led from the front to clinch victory on twelve-under-par.
“My time at Gothenburg was a great setting stone for me, there was a lot of excitement with it. So, I have just tried to keep the momentum going and keep playing as good as I can and try to make it into that top six on LET Access.
“During the round this week I knew Elena was going low and to be honest, I didn’t quite realise that I was 7 under until I realised in the scoring. There was pressure out there, but I didn’t really feel it. I loved it.
