Clarke’s mixed bag leaves him just outside the top 10 at the Shaw Classic, Petrovic leads by two

Darren Clarke shot an eventful 2-under-par 68 to sit in a tie for 13th place at the Shaw Charity Classic in Calgary.

Clarke shot four birdies, an eagle, 2 bogeys and a double on the par 3 5th to sit 6 off the lead after round one.

Tim Petrovic birdied his last three holes to shoot an 8-under-par 62 to lead by two.

Despite battling tennis elbow in his right arm, Petrovic made seven birdies and an eagle on route to his 62 at Canyon Meadows golf and country club.

He Hit 3-of-13 fairways, 14-of-18 greens in regulation and needed 25 putts to complete his round.

Harrison Frazar birdied four of his first five holes to shoot a 6-under-par 64 to sit in solo second, two behind Petrovic.

Frazar is still looking for his first champions tour win in his 34th start and he’ll be full of confidence after a round which was one shy of his career record.

Billy Mayfair shot a 5-under-par 65 to sit in third place, with Thongchai Jaidee, Dicky Pride and Tom Pernice Jr. a further shot back.

Home favourite Mike Weir shot a 3-under-par 67 to sit 5 shots off Petrovic’s lead in Calgary.
