Optimistic Irish punters are backing Seamus Power to keep alive his hopes of a big payday in the prestigious FedEx Playoffs as the race for the lucrative prize of $18m hots up in Illinois this week.
Power sits 35th in the FedEx Cup standings ahead of this week’s BMW Championship, but needs a strong result to haul himself back into contention as only the top 30 on Sunday evening will proceed to next week’s money-spinning Tour Championship finale in Atlanta.
Each-way support for the Waterford man means his outside odds of 125/1 on topping this week’s leaderboard have been clipped into 100/1 by BoyleSports, while the chances of a top ten finish have also been trimmed into 17/2f from 9/1.
Four rounds in the 60s at last week’s FedEx St. Jude Invitational means Rory McIlroy goes into the penultimate tournament third in the FedEx Cup table, and he is 6/1 favourite to boost his chances with victory this week ahead of Scottie Scheffler (13/2) and FedEx leader Jon Rahm (8/1).
Lawrence Lyons, spokesperson for BoyleSports said: “Those just below the top 30 line really need a big week so the incentive is huge for Seamus Power and that may explain the spike in each-way support.”
