Cameron Raymond continues to find form as he posted a bogey free 4-under par 68 to sit two shots off a five way tie for the lead on the Clutch Pro Tour at Slaley Hall.
Raymond bounced back from a disappointing weekend at the British Challenge last weekend, carding nine pars on the front nine before four birdies on the back, which leaves him inside the top 10 heading into day two in Northumberland.
Raymond told the Irish Golfer he is very happy with his first day’s work.
“Today was a nice one, obviously got off to a pretty decent start with nine pars in a row, played pretty nicely, i just didn’t get it close enough, didn’t really hole anything of significant length, couple of nice up and downs”.
“On the back nine I got it going a bit more, hit it close, got lucky off the tee shot which led to my first birdie and was pretty solid all day. I didn’t do a whole lot wrong and it was nice to go bogey free again and I was in position all day so, I’m hoping for more of the same tomorrow and let’s see what happens”.
Antrim’s John-Ross Galbraith is part of a five-way tie for the lead after carding a 6 under 66, which included seven birdies and a solitary bogey on the 15th.
Galbraith is joined by Gary King, Daniel Brown, Jack South and Gyu Lee on the 6 under mark, one clear of a trio of players on 5-under-par.
Stuart Grehan carded a 2-under-par 70, mixing five birdies with three bogeys to sit in a tie for 30th.
Grehan is full of confidence after a top 10 last week at the British Challenge but will be disappointed he did not go lower after bogeying two of the par 5s. Conor O’Rourke also mixed five birdies with three drop shots to join Grehan in a tie for 30th on 2-under-par.
Rowan Lester shot an opening round of level par 72 on day one with the Irish trio of Simon Bryan, Daniel Brennan and Daniel Mulligan three shots further back on 3 over par. John Hickey shot a 4-over-par 76. Tom Dowdall had a day to forget, shooting a 10-over-par 82.
