James Sugrue and Paul McBride both carded opening rounds of 67 at the Aravell Golf Open by Creand on the Alps Tour.
Both players lie in a share of seventh place on four-under-par and five shots off the lead held by Frenchman Mathieu Prost in Spain.
2019 Amateur champion Sugrue birdied three of his first four holes before birdies on 7 and 9 saw him turn in 30. A brace of bogeys on 11 and 12 halted his momentum but he bounced back to birdie the last.
Meanwhile former Walker Cup player McBride was five-under for his last seven holes, coming home in 31 courtesy of three birdies and an eagle.
Joseph Hanney is next best of the Irish on one-under after a 71 while Order of Merit chaser Ronan Mullarney is a shot below the cut line on plus one.
Paul Murphy has work to do to make the final round cut from four-over.
