Sam Murphy has jumped 14 places to 12th in the latest Bridgestone Order of Merit rankings after his fantastic win at home in Portumna at the Connacht Stroke Play last weekend.

The 20-year-old won by ten shots on Sunday, a week on from his brilliant showing in the East of Ireland, where he was only defeated after a play-off at Baltray.

East winner, Alex Maguire (Laytown and Bettystown), who added a sensational win in the St Andrews Links, maintains his lead at the top with David Shiel (Enniscrone) still second and Jack McDonnell (Forrest Little) moving to third. Shane McDermott (Slieve Russell) continues in fourth with David Kitt (Athenry) completing the top five after another solid display in Portumna.

The women’s section remains as it was with Emma Fleming (Elm Park) still at the summit. Kate Lanigan (Hermitage) is second with Anna Abom (Edmondstown) in third. Clodagh Coughlan (Douglas) and Aideen Walsh (Lahinch) make up the rest of the top five.

The next Bridgestone event will see the women stake centre stage for the AIG Women’s Irish Amateur Close in Connemara between 22 to 25 June. The next men’s event is at the end of July when the South of Ireland returns to Lahinch.
