Today, long-term supporter of both women’s sport and golf in Ireland, KPMG has teamed up with Irish professional golfer and KPMG ambassador, Leona Maguire, to launch their new ‘Books for Birdies’ initiative. The initiative will see one children’s book donated by KPMG to local communities near the Dromoland area for every birdie recorded by Leona Maguire and subsequently by every player at this year’s KPMG Women’s Irish Open.

The KPMG Books for Birdies campaign, in partnership with Children’s Books Ireland, kicks off today as Leona Maguire tees off at the Mizuho Americas Open in New Jersey, USA and will conclude on the final day of the 2023 KPMG Women’s Irish Open. Through this initiative, KPMG expects to donate over €20,000 worth of children’s books to local schools in nearby Newmarket-on-Fergus and a number of DEIS schools in and around Dromoland Castle, Co Clare.

KPMG has been a proud partner of Children’s Books Ireland since 2017, running a number of initiatives such as Bold Girls and Free To Be Me workshops as well as sponsoring the KPMG Children’s Books Ireland Awards. The Awards have been running for over thirty years and offer a total prize fund of €16,000 across six categories. This year’s KPMG Children’s Books Ireland Awards took place last month in Merrion Square.

Speaking ahead of today’s launch, Seamus Hand, Manager Partner at KPMG said: “We are delighted to be launching KPMG’s Books for Birdies campaign today, alongside our KPMG ambassador Leona Maguire. We are very proud of the support we provide to women’s golf and to Children’s Books Ireland, so it is great to be able to combine these two passions into what we are sure will be a hugely positive initiative for Dromoland’s local communities. It has been a pleasure to work with Leona since the beginning of her professional career and we look forward to watching her and to cheering her on to further success throughout the season.”

Irish professional golfer and KPMG ambassador, Leona Maguire added: “I am thrilled to be a part of KPMG’s Books for Birdies campaign. Over the years, I have made some fantastic memories around Dromoland Castle, and I am very glad to have the opportunity to give back to a community which has provided me and women’s golf in Ireland with so much. It certainly will add that little bit of excitement to my game as we keep track of the books we will be donating to the Dromoland area.”

Elaina Ryan CEO Children’s Books Ireland added: “We’re thrilled to be launching this new initiative with our partners KPMG, putting excellent books straight into the hands of young readers. It is our hope that these books, chosen for their inclusion, diverse and empowering stories, will inspire the next generation to forge their own path through the world, as Leona continues to do with each step of her career. We wish her every success in this year’s KPMG Women’s Irish Open and look forward to seeing the excitement of these books’ arrival as “Books for Birdies” gets underway!”

Following its successful return last year after a ten-year hiatus, the 2023 KPMG Women’s Irish Open will be staged for the second time at Dromond Castle, Co. Clare from 31st August to 3rd September. It’s a chance to see some of Europe’s top golfers in action as they secure books for donation through the KPMG ‘Books for Birdies’ initiative. Tickets are now on sale at https://kpmgwomensirishopen.ie/.

Leona has been a KPMG ambassador since she turned professional in 2018. KPMG are committed to supporting Leona throughout her career and as she continues to inspire the future.
