Richard O’Donovan picked up his second win on the PGA in Ireland Region after a five-under 68 gave him a two shot cushion at the Lucan Pro-Am.
It was a home win for O’Donovan who carded six birdies and an eagle in his round to cancel out three dropped shots.
Conditions were tough despite his low score with just three players breaking par overall. Eddie Tracey was second on three-under while Thomastown’s Brian Doheny was third on -2.
There was a huge collection of players on level par after rounds of 73 including last week’s winner Tim Rice, Liam Grehan, Liam Power, Shane Jenkinson, Michael McGeady, Colm Moriarty and Eoin O’Connor as they finished five shy of the rampant O’Donovan.
“The course was playing tight, it’s a short and tight golf course so when you keep it in the fairway you will give yourself chances coming in,” said O’Donovan. “But it was so tight there are holes you are forced to chip sideways and that happened to me three times and cost me two bogeys.
“I was very happy with five-under I putted well when you have that many birdies it shows I am giving myself chances and I’m putting pretty well overall.
“The biggest factor was keeping the ball in play I was quite aggressive I hit driver everywhere and it’s my home track so it was nice to get a home win on my course.”
