Sara Byrne recorded a career-best third place finish at the Palm Beach Regional as she booked her place in the NCAA D1 Women’s Golf Championship finals later this month.

The Douglas native finished on two-under-par for the 54 holes which included a final round of 74.

It was enough for Byrne to punch her ticket to Scottsdale Arizona where she will compete in the NCAA finals at Grayhawk Golf Club from May 19-24.

It was a double celebration in Palm Beach for the Irish as Aine Donegan’s LSU side bridged an eight-shot gap to qualify for the NCAA Championship in the all-important fifth place.

Lahinch’s Donegan finished in a share of 25th place in the individual standings after a final round of 74 gave her a seven-over total.

Lauren Walsh helped the no.1 ranked side Wake Forest qualify for the NCAA Championship for the fifth successive year as she recorded an eagle in the final round.

The Castlewarden native shared 42nd place on ten-over after a 77.

The Deacs will be looking to go one better than their runner-up finish in 2019.

“We are very proud of this team. There were some tough conditions the first two days and our scores reflected that on the first day. It wasn’t our best round, and we had some work to do, but we made a few adjustments and came out and executed when we needed to. We were on the cut line today and went six under on the last four holes. This is always a stressful week and there are so many deserving teams, but we are glad we came out on the right side of the line,” said head coach Kim Lewellen.
