Sean Keeling will have a chance at a quick fire Scottish and Welsh double on Sunday as he heads into the final round of the Welsh Open Strokeplay just three shots off the pace.
A one-under 69 has the Roganstown starlet on three-over-par as England’s Robert Holden leads on level-par after recovering from an opening 75 with super efforts of 68 and 67.
Keeling shares second place with local favourite Timothy Harry in Souhterndown.
A superb back nine of 32 saw Keeling claw his way back into contention after a difficult start.
The teenager had bogeyed two of his first three holes and a birdie on the par-3 7th was followed by a bogey on the par-5 8th has he turned in 37 for the second day running.
Last week’s Scottish Boys champion brought his round to life with a welcome eagle on the par-5 13th and he followed that up with a birdie on 15 to keep himself in the hunt.
Baltinglass golfer Joseph Byrne also can’t be ruled out after a 69 of his own left him within five of the lead on five-over-par.
Byrne also put in a fine back nine with birdies on 12, 13 and 18 with a bogey coming on 17.
Rosapenna Scratch Cup winner Patrick Keeling shot a fine 68 to move into the top-15 on nine-over-par.
Gweedore’s Padraig O’Dochartaigh is two shots further back after a 71.
