Tiger Woods looks certain to compete at the Masters next week, after tournament organisers confirmed he would face the media in the build-up to the first major of the season.
It marks the five-time Masters champion’s 25th appearance since making his debut as an amateur in 1995 while it will be only Woods second event this year after T45th at the Genesis Invitational.
Indeed, since 2020, Woods has contested only three competitive events as he continued to recover from the severe leg injuries sustained in a car accident in February 2021.
The now 47-year-old revealed in November he had developed plantar fasciitis in his right foot, adding to his injury woes and has regularly emphasised just how much work is needed on his body before and after rounds to allow him to compete.
It was at Augusta National that he made his competitive return last year, just 14 months on from suffering those life-threatening injuries, as Woods shot an opening round of 71 to sit in the top ten after 18 holes on his way to making the cut and finishing 47th.
The 15-time major champion has only once failed to make the cut at the Masters, back in 1996 when playing as an amateur. He returned a year later to win by 12 shots.
Woods will host a press conference at Augusta on Tuesday next week at 4pm (Irish time) with Rory McIlroy and Jon Rahm up earlier in the day. Cameron Smith is the only LIV player included in the interview schedule – he will face the assembled media at 8pm on Monday.
