Youngsters can learn from their sporting heroes when Irish rugby legend Brian O’Driscoll and former England footballer Gareth Barry lead youth training camps at Quinta do Lago, in Portugal, this April.
For young golfers, a camp available from April 3-17 offers a fun way to learn the game at one of its most prestigious resorts. Kids aged between three and 13 can take to the world’s only Paul McGinley Academy for an action-packed week, with special gifts including golf gear included in the price.
Quinta do Lago has earned a reputation as a leading figure in European golf, with a trio of stunning 18-hole courses – the North Course, South Course and Laranjal – attracting visitors from all around the world. The South Course underwent an extensive €7million renovation in 2021 and was crowned Europe’s Best Golf Course at the World Golf Awards last year as the resort celebrated its 50th anniversary.
Imparting knowledge gained across a combined 38 years in their respective sporting fields, O’Driscoll and Barry will team up with experienced coaches to deliver a week to remember at the Algarve resort.
O’Driscoll, who captained both Ireland and the British & Irish Lions, will return to the resort for another of his popular rugby camps from April 10-14. Aimed at boys and girls aged 5-15, the camp covers every aspect of the game and includes a full personalised kit for each participant.
Meanwhile, a soccer camp in partnership with premier coaching brand Football Escapes will take place from April 3-7, led by Barry – who has made more Premier League appearances than any other player in history. Barry’s appearance will be the first of four tantalising football camps in 2023, with his former England teammates Joe Cole and Joleon Lescott set to host similar events in May and August.
Tennis sessions will run several times a week, with five different classes to cater for young players aged four and over. The resort’s in-demand Dance Camp also returns from April 3-7 and is suitable for children aged 8-12. Football, rugby, tennis and dance sessions will take place at The Campus – the resort’s state-of-the-art performance and wellness centre. The Campus is regularly used by professional athletes and includes a high-performance gym and swimming pool as well as tennis and Padel courts.
Quinta do Lago’s standing as one of the world’s finest golf resorts has only grown following the refurbishment of the par-72 South Course, which has hosted the Portuguese Open on eight occasions. The Justin Rose Telegraph Junior Golf Championship – known as the ‘Unofficial Major of Junior Golf’ – is a regular fixture in the resort’s calendar, with the most recent edition taking place in November 2022.
Away from the courses, Quinta do Lago’s guests can choose from 14 first-class bars and restaurants and stay in the boutique Magnolia hotel. The Algarve is a favourite with tourists for its natural beauty and ideal golfing climate, and the sweeping 2,000-acre resort has now celebrated five decades as one of the region’s most popular destinations.
Meanwhile, Quinta do Lago is also offering a 15 per cent reduction on room rates at the Magnolia Hotel for families to enjoy this Easter.
Book now for a minimum of three consecutive nights from April 1-16. With great facilities and entertainment ideas for children, The Magnolia Hotel has everything you need, including a traditional Easter Lunch, a fantastic Movie Night and creative Easter painting crafts.
